Overview
The University of Sydney (informally, USYD) is an Australian public research university in Sydney, Australia. Founded in 1850, it was Australia’s first university and is regarded as one of the world’s leading universities. As one of Australia’s leading universities, the University of Sydney is a key member of: The Group of Eight Australia’s major research-intensive universities; and The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
Sydney offers a wide range of undergraduate degrees and puts students in touch with a world of possibilities through the university’s international affiliations, industry and alumni mentoring programs and innovative partnerships. Students can choose to study either through the bachelor’s or honours program. More than 500 scholarships intended for undergraduate students help them achieve their goals at Sydney.
The basic entry for undergraduate courses in Sydney is assessed on the basis of a student’s academic results. Examples of these requirements include the Australian tertiary admission rank (ATAR) or equivalent, tertiary or TAFE study or a foundation course. Having an ATAR is not the only way students can get accepted in Sydney, the university also offers other pathways.
The University of Sydney is home to a lot of overseas students. To help them during their stay in Australia, the university has prepared various support services. Pre-departure briefings consisting of information on applying for student visa, organizing finances, travel and health, accommodation (both temporary and permanent) and important documents to pack are discussed. The university offers free airport pick-up services to take students to their accommodation.
Along with these support services, Sydney offers a comprehensive orientation program and pre-enrolment briefing for international students. This will familiarize students with the university, and enable them to meet other students and faculty members. International student advisers are also available to discuss with students any concerns and questions they have.
The annual undergraduate tuition fees are $38,500 for business courses, $35,000 for Arts/Education, and $42,000 for Engineering/Science.
Sydney scholarships are intended for all students whether they are studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. Scholarships are available for year 12, gap and mature age students. The university also has a number of scholarships available, including many which are specifically designed for international students. Some scholarships are faculty-based and others are available across all faculties.
Scholarships at the university may be given based on a combination of school examination results, including ATAR or equivalent, and other achievements that show qualities such as leadership, creativity, self-motivation and communication skills. Students are encouraged to look for funding from sources outside of Sydney. They may apply for scholarships from companies, governmental groups, religious missions and other universities.

| Other Details | Equity and Hardship Grounds Domestic students with excellent academic ability may also choose to apply for the Sydney Scholars Awards on Hardship Grounds, i.e. students facing significant challenges such as financial, medical or disability issues, have a refugee status, or live in a rural or remote area. These students will also need to submit a separate Equity Scholarship application through UAC. The University of Sydney will link your Sydney Scholars Awards on Hardship Grounds to your UAC application for assessment purposes. The selection criteria will be on the basis of equity and a broader level of academic ability.
