Overview

The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) is a medium-sized, regional, public university based in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, with three university campuses at Toowoomba, Springfield and Ipswich. It offers courses in law, health, engineering, the sciences, business, education, and the arts. The institution was established in 1967.

Students choose to study at USQ across five faculties – Arts, Business, Education, Engineering and Surveying and Sciences. USQ Toowoomba campus is one of the most modern and well equipped in Australia. The Phoenix building is a purpose built Arts/Business building that houses the Australian Graduate School of Business. It incorporates world class teaching facilities including Harvard style lecture theatres and syndicate rooms. The University library provides students with an extensive collection of texts and journals as well as extensive online databases.

USQ has a good reputation of providing students with industry-based undergraduate degrees in a flexible and supportive environment. Students have an option to study on-campus or via online or distance education. The university offers undergraduate courses in business and commerce, creative arts and media, education, health and community, engineering and built environment, humanities and communication, information technology, law and justice and sciences.

To apply for an undergraduate university degree at USQ, students must have a recognized previous academic qualification. Undergraduate students can gain international experience and intercultural skills by participating in USQ’s study abroad and study exchange programs. Scholarships are also granted to eligible students studying a bachelor degree.

USQ overseas students can choose from a wide array of undergraduate study areas. International students can also study English language programs to prepare them for entry into a USQ degree. The university acknowledges the struggles that overseas students encounter in Australia thus, USQ has prepared numerous support programs and services.

Prior to arriving in Australia, international students are briefed accordingly with regards to the necessary preparations, flight bookings and accommodation. Free transportation is also available at the airport once the student arrives. Orientations, briefings and international student scholarships are as well available to international students.

The annual undergraduate tuition fees are $22,300 for business courses, $21,920 for Arts/Education, and $25,850 for Engineering/Science.

USQ offers scholarships to outstanding domestic and international students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and participation in the wider community. Students may also be eligible for scholarship if their ability to achieve full academic potential is affected by financial hardship. Scholarships are available for both future students and continuing students.

A considerable number of external scholarships are available at USQ. Students are eligible to apply for scholarships offered by other organizations and Australian Government departments. Examples of these scholarships include World Nomads Scholarship, Roberta Sykes Scholarship, the ACAS/ Coca-Cola agriculture scholarships, Fullbright scholarships and Stayz scholarship.

Selection Criteria: Applicants must: 1.submit a personal statement (two page maximum) outlining: a) current involvement in activities of the USQ Alumni Network through attending, volunteering and engaging with the Alumni network b) your aspirations and career goals for the future c) why you think you should be considered for this scholarship 2.submit an academic resume (two page maximum) providing: a) evidence of academic achievement (transcript of results) with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.00 or above.
